Although their voices were somewhat drowned out by bellowing club music around the bar areas, their ebullient festive spirit was duly awarded by passing smiles and exuberance. Organised by the TakeOut Comedy group, the 40-plus mobile band is composed of stand-up comedians, friends and occasionally the odd passer-by dragged in by their liveliness. Leader of the pack Jami Gong, a native of New York, started this annual gathering in 2005 with a mission to spread free cheers around the financial district. Gong says the endeavour takes on a bigger emphasis this year what due to the widespread gloom brought on by the financial downturn, and proves free cheers are priceless.

SOCPA (Serious Organised Crime and Police Act) was a law introduced to stop protest near Parliament in England. Designed to get rid of 6-year peace protestor Brian Haw, so far it has failed. This film tells the story of the battle against this law, and the surreal comedy at times when police try to enforce it. The whole film runs to an hour, and features an original music soundtrack. With 34 teams of competitors, all kitted out in fancy dress, home-made soapbox race cars and a half-mile race track, the Hoar Cross Downhill race proved a hit with the audiences. The event was organised to raise money for charity, and perhaps to air the odd fancy dress costume in front of the village. The rules dictate that the cars must be home-made and the brakes must work. While many competitors were content to coast down the course waving at spectators, the speed fiends who set out to clock the fastest time possible. The fastest team, 'Wrecked 'em Racing', sped down the hill in just 57 seconds but finished the race in a pile of hay after their brakes failed to work properly.Hot Under the Collar...
