Ansonsten halten er und sein Kumpel Samuel (Oliver Wnuk) den Ball flach und warten in Essen-Kray auf das Eintreffen der Amerikaner, denn wir schreiben das Jahr 1944 der Zweite Weltkrieg ist noch nicht zu Ende. Bevor es so weit ist, geraten die beiden zusammen mit der Schauspielerin Maria (Yvonne Catterfeld) in ein derart irrwitziges Abenteuer, dass selbst Atze manchmal die Sprüche ausgehen: Der deutsche Generalstab will das letzte verfügbare U-Boot, die U-900, in geheimer Mission von Toulon nach Warnemünde schicken. Als sich Atze ausgerechnet mit dem für diesen Einsatz verantwortlichen General Strasser (Jürgen Schornagel) anlegt, muss er gemeinsam mit Samuel und Maria fliehen: Das Trio kapert die U-900, wobei Atze sich als der legendäre Kapitänleutnant Rönberg ausgibt. Auch wenn er von Seefahrt keine Ahnung hat Atze wäre nicht Atze, hätte er nicht für jedes Problem die richtige Lösung.
